BUILDING INFORMATION MODELLING

Building – The entire lifecycle of a offshore platform can be captured in a single model

Information – All information about the building can be managed

Modelling – Defining and simulating as built architectural, mechanical, HVAC and electrical modifications.

3D BIM models allow engineering departments to make informed decisions about their offshore platforms and vessels. It’s not just a graphical representation of the installation but also manages vital information that allows automatic generation of drawings and reports, design analysis, schedule information and facilities information. With 3D models we can focus on the ‘As Built’ structure to give an accurate view of the HVAC systems on your platforms. Don’t know where the ductwork goes for a particular fan system! No problem. Just zoom in and view the ductwork from any 360º perspective. Wall structures can easily be removed along with any other ductwork that doesn’t need to be viewed. This gives a clear and precise representation of the area you need to focus on along with all the specific information required for individual components.

Where would you use 3D BIM Modelling?

  • HVAC FEED studies and conceptual design
  • Equipment upgrades – eg. Model the new AHU replacement to identify clashes and mis-alignment of pipework or ductwork
  • Drawing production and equipment schedules
  • Airflow analysis and resolving pressurisation issues
  • Creation of 3D PDF’s to share with clients of project team members
  • Risk and cost analysis

If you have a new project coming up and would like some support with engineering the HVAC systems, then think about the value a 3D model could bring to your team. Identify the risks before they happen!
